Clinical Efficacy of Omeprazole in the Treatment of Duodenal Ulcer

Abstract
|
|
|
The study objective was to study the ulcer healing effect and safety of omeprazole given in a dose of 20 mg once daily before breakafast. 37 patients with endoscopically documented active duodenal ulcer were studied.
@ES The following results were obtained;
@EN 1) The overall healing rates were 83.8% after 2 weeks treatment, and 94.6% after 6weeks treatment.
2) The symptom relief achieved by omeprazole was very rapid. And, only 10.8% of subjects complained of ulcer-related symptoms after 2 weeks treatment. No one complained of epigastric pain at that time.
3) None of the patients complained of any adverse symptoms. And there were no clinically significant changes in laboratory tests.
In conclusion, the auther found omeprazole to be safe and suggest a single daily morning dose of 20mg for treatment of duodenal ulcers.
